Aireana Owen, Animal Care Intern

Favorite Animal? AWCC: Wolves and Bears Overall: Gorillas
Where are you from? Indianola, Washington
Education? Majored in Biology at Washington State University, but is moving to Florida to finish my degree
How did you get involved with AWCC? I started here as a volunteer and fell in love with being part of the AWCC family. There is a strong sense of teamwork here and everyone is very passionate about the work we are doing. Not only is this a great step for me career-wise, but this is the work I have wanted to do my entire life. This is what makes my heart happy.
Plans after this? Near the end of this summer, I am moving to Florida where I will get back to school. I am very excited to become involved with more conservation work, again.

Madeline Grosh, Marketing Intern

Favorite Animal? AWCC: Jade and Storm the foxes, Tok the moose Overall: Sea Otters, Foxes, Rhinos
Where are you from? Muncie, Indiana
Education? Ball State University Major: Photojournalism Minor: Peace Studies & Conflict Resolution, Entrepreneurial Management
Aspirations? I want to photograph the stories of those who can’t tell their own, and share it with the world. For me, this statement includes anything from wars to child slavery to endangered animals. I simply want to capture a story through photos, share it with others, and inspire them to take a step towards the problem and make a difference. Eventually, I’d love to be published by National Geographic or Time magazine.
How do you hope AWCC will help you accomplish your aspirations? I hope AWCC will help me to grow in the world of marketing, social media and site design. I also hope to have the chance of photographing a variety of animals and animal-keeper interaction. Since one day I hope to photograph wild animals, AWCC is the perfect first step.
Favorite part so far? Having the chance to follow the keepers around and document activities such as feeding calves and cubs or training the foxes and deer
Anything else? I didn’t have a ton of marketing experience prior to this internship, and I just want to thank AWCC for giving me a chance. I have learned something new about marketing, photography or myself almost every day. Visiting Alaska was a childhood dream of mine, and I am incredibly grateful I am able to combine a dream internship with a dream destination.
