The AWCC is excited to announce the wood bison herd has grown by one. A baby bison has joined the family! The bison calf was born between the hours of 1 am and 4 am on Monday, July 15. The calf is happy and healthy and sticking very close to mom. Follow us on social media or sign up for e-blasts to hear the gender of the calf, once it is determined.
Did you know wood bison weigh about 40 pounds at birth and can start walking hours afterward? They are an orange color for a few weeks and will start growing their horns and develop their characteristic shoulder hump at about two months of age. Calves begin grazing by their first week of life and are weaned by the fall.
