The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) recently welcomed new Curator, Dave Orndorff. Orndorff adds valuable experience with a diverse background in wildlife management and care to the Wildlife Center, and will be instrumental in the center’s future growth and current animal care efforts.

Orndorff’s experience spans from across the country, including serving as Curator at the Tracy Aviary in Utah, Executive Director and Curator of The Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke, VA and Manager of the bird collection at The San Diego Zoo. “I’ve never considered my career as a job, but more of a 42 year hobby. And to add to that, being able to live and work in Alaska, what could be better than that.” Orndorff asserted.

Orndorff also brings valuable insights into the Wildlife Center with his experience working in the non-profit sector. He has experience as the director and curator at the Mill Mountain Zoo where he learned to blend animal management with financial resourcing.

Mike Miller, Executive Director of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center said “AWCC is excited to welcome someone of Dave’s professionalism with the diversity of experiences he has had” and is sure that “he will be a valuable asset to the ongoing development at AWCC.”

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a 501 (c) (3) Corporation dedicated to conserving Alaska’s Wildlife through education, and quality animal care. Orndorff’s arrival is the culmination of his career, and he hopes “to be able to share his experience with everyone involved in the AWCC community.”
