In June 2013, Jade was picked up by joggers on a running trail in Anchorage when they believed he was orphaned. Foxes in general are known to be very curious animals. Jade may have just been exploring his new surroundings when he was found. Just like Snickers the porcupine; it is illegal to take in a fox kit. Jade quickly became a favorite animal here at the center and can be seen “wagging” his tail around curious visitors while enjoying the occasional raw egg.
Storm, the new marble fox, was illegally bred as an attempted domestication animal and lived in the home until she was discovered and rescued in 2015. Storm is believed to be around two and half years old and is a phase, or adaptation, of a red fox. The addition of Storm into AWCC’s educational programs presents the opportunity to provide an interactive and dynamic lesson in which the public can be informed on the importance and the plight of her wild counter parts and various sub-species around the world.
